FINAL DESIGNS

Image
After a long and frustrating design process, my outcomes are finally ready.  PALEOLITHIC: This design was my 3D piece which was made using clay: This is probably my favourite outcome of the collection. I think it works well with the theme and I had the opportunity to create it myself. I really like the colour scheme and the selection of materials and colours. If I had more time, I would have made the lampshade myself too, but unfortunately it is a very complex and time consuming process. I was planning on doing a promotional video, however, I am not sure if it will look good or if I have sufficient time to complete it. If I do not have enough ideas or time to complete it, then I will create one design board for it.  This was my design for the Mesolithic era: This was one of the challenging designs on the software. However, I think it turned out rather successful. The outcome is a bit different from the one portrayed in the development ideas, however, the concept remains the sa...

Software Process: Mesolithic and Neolithic

Image
In this blog, I will be explaining the process for the two lamp designs.  Mesolithic : This was the first design I created and I forgot to document every part of this process, therefore, I will be explaining it. I downloaded a basic log from the warehouse. Then, I exploded it and started editing branches off and adding more branches. This was a few steps into adding and removing branches. This was a very time consuming process which I was not expecting. Then, I added 'create component' to make the branches one part. I used a light bulb from the warehouse and added it onto the longer branches. I used the circular shape and the push/pull tool to create the lamp shading.  I will not be including wires in this. I think this design ended up being very successful. The process was very time consuming and frustrating as my computer has difficulties processing everything. However, I definitely think that it was worth it. Because of the lack of screenshots in this design, I remembered t...

Software Process: Bronze Age

Image
After looking at the first lamp I designed, it was time to design the bronze one.  This was the process: I decided to start with the top layer measuring 80x80cm. I used the line tool and drew my design. I used the push/pull tool to make it 3D. Then, I drew some vertical lines from each edge so I can have a guide for  the next layer. I had to calculate the vertical distance in which I wanted the second triangle (60x60cm) to be placed at so I did Pythagoras Theorem. I used Pythagoras for all the distances and this is how the base structure turned out. The third layer is 40x40cm and the last is 20x20cm. I used the ruler tool every once in a while to ensure that the dimensions are correct.  What I consider magical in this design is how it looks when viewed from exactly underneath. I really love the aesthetics of this lamp. Then, I used the line tool to connect all the corners together.  Since I could not find these specific corner brackets in the warehouse, I made ...

Software Process: Iron Age

Image
In this blog post, I will be describing the process of the iron age lamp. Why did I use sketch up again? It is evident that I know sketch up better than any other software, however, I am still not as confident in my skills as I should be. Therefore, since I have been working on it for 2 terms, I thought it would be best to further enhance my skills and focus on sketchup. I consider these designs the most challenging technically out of all 3 terms, so I wanted to push myself. This year was solely focused on sketchup and my development on it. I would love to try a new software as that shows bravery and eagerness to learn more. However, due to time constraints this was not possible. I thought that it would be better to set this goal for the summer where I would have way more time in order to explore other software without being rushed.   With that in mind, this is the process I used for sketchup: I started off with my blank canvas. I edited the dimensions to cm in order to have m...
